The water cycle is taught in second and third classrooms across the United States. The Water Cycle with Olly and Carl is an excellent way to introduce it.
Olly the owl tries to sleep, but Carl, a young cricket afraid of the rain, is crying. Olly explains the water cycle to Carl using the scientific terms of evaporation, transpiration, condensation, and precipitation, but in a way that is fun.
When assured that Carl is no longer afraid, Olly flies to his tree to sleep. But then something else keeps Olly awake.
A glossary at the end of the book defines terms associated with the water cycle: evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, water vapor, hydrologic cycle, runoff, infiltration, and storage.
Sonja McGiboney writes concept based books for children ages two through eight. Check out her Jazzy's Books as well.
