Michael Whitmore is a compulsive braggart. His father is a compulsive gambler.

One Friday night after work Michael makes a statement that he can perform any task, anywhere without anyone's help and then he unwittingly went on to brag that he could do it as a deaf mute.

That was a statement that his father could not resist gambling on. His father gave Michael a challenge that he must perform in two years as a resident of the small community of Munificence in southern Georgia as a deaf mute; this challenge must be accomplished without using his money, family or present friends.

Michael started with secondhand clothing $200 and a 56 Chevy to start his adventure in this challenging Wager.

On his way to start his two-year challenge Michael runs into a man who had been kidnapped and escaped by jumping from the bed of the kidnapper's speeding truck. As a result of this chance encounter Michael meets the local Doctor and the Mayor of Munificence.

With the help of the Doctor and the Mayor and some friendships, Michael develops plans that will help him in his quest.

In the final minutes of the challenge a long forgotten family secret is unraveled, Michael proposes to the love of his life and wins the challenge.
