Like any singer, fifteen-year-old Karsen James is determined to get famous - but not because she wants her name in shining lights. Growing up in a world governed by the Terrachy, she lives in fear of the soldiers who police every aspect of life. There is no freedom of expression except during the Melodious Contention, an international music contest that provides few winners a new life in a secret, secluded country.
When audition day finally arrives, she's shocked by a sudden tragedy as soldiers arrest her father, a prestigious doctor, over rumors of malpractice. Her musical ambitions turn to defiant hope. Even more, she can't seem to escape the young officer involved with her father's arrest. Can she trust him to help? Can she trust herself to win this contest?
