Chillicothe is an old and full-flavored Ohio town, and Ross County has stamped its image on the great seal of the State. This book tells the story in words and pictures of this first capitol of Ohio. All the work has been done by the Federal Writers' Project of the Works Progress Administration in Ohio; by its research staff, typists, writers, and editors. More than a hundred workers are employed by the Writers' Project in this State. They have gone through old newspapers, private journals and scrapbooks, neglected archives, and they have had personal interviews with informed citizens. This work on Chillicothe and Ross County, a part of the American Guide Series, is one of several forthcoming publications on Ohio.
-Harlan Hatcher, State Director, Federal Writers' Project of Ohio, 1938
