Memories of an Enlisted WAF is the insight into life for the enlisted Women in the Air Force during the sixties. It follows the four years of active duty of one woman as she goes against the wishes of her family and pursues a career in the military.
The reader follows her from the day she picks up an Air Force brochure at her high school, travels by train to Lackland AFB, Texas for basic and is honorably discharged after four years of service.
Few women thought about joining the military in the sixties, as it was considered a man’s world and few career fields were open to the women. This era was the beginning of Women’s Liberation. Author Bio: Charlene served four years active duty Air Force from 1962 - 1966. After being honorably discharged she married TSgt Robert Copeland and for the next 16 years was a military dependent, accompanying her husband on all his assignments, except Viet Nam. She travelled extensively while they were stationed in Germany. Her husband retired from active duty as a CMSGT in 1982 and they retired to Orangevale, CA. In 1996 they moved to Missouri and he passed away in 2002. Charlene now resides in Cuba, MO where she lives with her 2 dogs, a parrot and several cats. She loves wildlife, working in her vegetable and flower gardens and is an avid reader. This is her first attempt at writing a book. She has a son and step-son living in California and a step-daughter in Nevada.
