About Kenyatta’s Stone: Kenyatta’s Stone is a catalyst to begin conversations with youth in grades K-5, about people of African descent, including their stories, histories, contributions to the world and the harrowing legacy of being enslaved for centuries in America. Tragically, the aftermath of slavery continues to still impact generations of African Americans.
Although fictional, Kenyatta is very much rooted in history. Her emotions and feelings are raw and real, and her quest for freedom is fierce. Kenyatta’s perspective, voice, vision, and her dreams to return to her beautiful homeland never falter and are realized, due to creative license.
