Custodians are the first line of defence against an invisible, heartless, vicious and aggressive enemy: infectious bacteria. Bachelor’s degreed Bacteriologist would most likely have studied Microbiology, Mycology, Bacteriology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry, ending with a degree that would amass a salary of about $75,000.00 per year- to start. Salary ranges for Custodians or Janitors, on the other hand, range between $22,000.00 and $35,000.00 per year-no degrees required. In many cases, there is not even a GED validating the qualification of cleaning personnel, but these under-recognized, under-compensated, under- appreciated, Front Line Warriors attack contaminants with a fierceness unmatched, for the benefit, and life safety of ALL others.
