This is the second decade of the Florida Writers Association as told by many of its more than 1500 members, buzzing in a myriad of capacities, from room monitors, executive committee members, Writers Group Leaders, directors, mentors, chair-people, faculty, conference guides, in all walks of life and at all levels of writing journeys. It is this body of people who create the diverse synapse of FWA’s foundation and heart. The around the kitchen table coffee break beginnings, where its singular mission, Writers Helping Writers was born, has grown into a professional organization hailing from every corner of our home state, Florida, plus 20 other states and the Virgin Islands. The Florida Writers Association provides the state’s largest three-day annual conference for published and aspiring writers, hosts one-day writers’ sessions across the state, offers over forty local writers groups and critique programs, issues a magazine every other month titled The Florida Writer, provides a comprehensive website, and maintains a writers’ blog and online podcasts. Additionally, members may submit their work to the prestigious Royal Palm Literary Awards Competition each year as well as a contest for our annual themed Collection of short stories.

FWA plays a significant role in developing our members while providing excellent opportunities for publication and strengthening literacy. The story of the Florida Writers Association continues unfolding, but our history illustrates what can be done by creative, energetic people with a vision. Visit us at www.FloridaWriters.org.
