20/20 Prudent Leadership: Who Am I?

The most important person to know is yourself. Yet, one of the most perplexing questions of life consists of three simple words: Who Am I? There are so many identities and roles we pick up on along life’s journey - mother, father, husband, wife, baseball player, engineer, nurse, doctor, accountant, etc. The list of identities can be quite lengthy. Although Theodore Roosevelt (26th U.S. President) lived multifaceted experiences and wore many hats identifying him in specific roles, his gravestone is simply inscribed with his name, date of birth and death, followed by his wife’s name and date of birth and death. On a separate stone in memorial is inscribed one of TR’s famous sayings, Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground. In contemplating the strenuous life of TR, we believe, as a young boy who suffered with asthma to a strong man, big game African Safari hunter and Amazon River of Doubt expeditioner, he routinely self-reflected on the perplexing question of who am I?
