In this story, Jesus defines neighbor in different ways. Any person in need is your neighbor even if he is a member of a race that is a traditional enemy just as the Samaritans were hated by the Jews due to their intermarriages with non Jews. From the illustration, we learn three principles about loving our neighbor that Jesus gave concerning the priest, the Temple assistant and the Samaritan. It teaches us about true love for our neighbor and only the Samaritan treated the wounded man as a person to love.
