The colt is first mentioned in the Old Testament, Zechariah 9:9. In the New Testament, each gospel writer tells the story of Jesus’ arrival into Jerusalem. All four wrote that Jesus, in fulfilling scriptures, rode on the back of an ass colt. The interesting aspect was that it had never before been ridden.

Jesus arrived in Jerusalem riding on the back of an ass colt. The Donkey Story, told from the perspective of the donkey, is meant to help children have faith and trust in God, and appreciate that all of God’s creatures are part of the Christmas and Easter stories.
