Sometimes, if you look closely, you will see the faint footprints of tiny fairies at the bottom of your garden… They love to dance and sing by the moonlight, especially when all the grown-ups are fast asleep in their comfy beds. So, if you wake up early enough and creep out to where the old oak tree stands tall, before the sun has had a chance to fill the morning sky, you may find a little bit of sparkling fairy dust left behind by the Fairy Queen. You might even meet Silver the fairy… She always seems to be the last fairy to leave the dancing circle. Silver loves to dance, have fun and go on adventures, especially when she is with her friend Michael.
Inside this book, you will meet Silver, Michael, and all the fairies from the fairy glen as they explore the world around them, sometimes getting into a little bit of trouble! Quickly, open the pages! They can’t wait to meet you!
This story was originally written by Judith Olufsen. Judy, as she was affectionately known, was a lonely little girl who believed in the magic of fairy tales. She loved to escape into the enchantment of books and stories, where she was safe from the outside world. As she grew into a woman, Judy became a loving wife and a remarkable mother to her five children. A true bibliophile, Judy continued to read as many
books as humanly possible, escaping into new worlds, eras and dimensions, often all within a single day!
As the youngest of Judy’s five children, Samantha Worthington inherited her mother’s passion for books and writing. She passed this passion down to her own daughter, Natascha Chittenden, an avid reader and writer, and Judy’s most precious granddaughter. When Judy passed away from cancer in 2016, her family lost their cornerstone. Although their grief was enormous, they were left with beautiful memories of their mom - a woman who was unforgettable to all who knew her.
A few years after Judy passed away, amongst her belongings, Samantha found two manuscripts for children’s books. Those manuscripts became the inspiration for Silver the Contrary Fairy, and together with her daughter Natascha, Samantha edited the initial manuscripts and published the book her mother wrote as a young woman, all those years ago. This book is not just a fairy tale, it is the legacy of three
generations of women held together in life and in death by a golden thread of unwavering love, and an eternal belief in the power of magic.
