In the fifties, life in Sicily was very grim for the poor, and Pino’s family was impoverished. As a young man, he falls in love with Mariella, who comes from a rich family, and Pino learns that he can’t have things his way.

Only pain and anger remain when they are separated. She is married against her will and he joins the army without being able to see her again. Time goes by and Pino embarks on a career in the hotel and restaurant business owned by the family of his army buddy Piero. Piero’s sister, Francesca, falls in love with Pino and tells him so, but he has still Mariella on his mind.

He and Francesca take over a hotel in Kenya and their love blooms as they make a success of their hard work. After Francesca is killed in a car accident, Pino retires. He receives a call one day from Mariella, who is being harassed by local thugs. He travels to help her and discovers that Mariella’s oldest son is his own. Will Pino, Mariella, and their child be able to turn back the clock to Another Time … Another Place?

Pippo Sortino was born in Sicily in 1942. Because of the lack of work, he emigrated to the UK in 1965. Later he started a business in Kenya with his Kenyan-born wife.
