She was born in Warren, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Grove City College, Grove City, Pa. with a Commercial Education degree. She was a social worker in Warren County, and at the University of Pittsburgh was the Administrative Assistant to the Dean, Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.
