In 1670, the Mendon-to-Medfield road in North Bellingham was already in use. This road later became known as Middle Post Road, and Benjamin Franklin laid out the original mile markers. Such notables as Nathan Hale marched along this route, and Paul Revere used it to deliver the Suffolk Resolves to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia.
