After 16 months in the VA hospital, Roy traveled to Europe spending time on Potmos an island in the Greek Dodecanese isle writing Blood Brothers as a cathartic release. Returning home, Roy received his degree in Philosophy, after which he began his professional career in the pursuit of helping others. Employed by the state of California he first assisted veterans in finding gainful employment. Then aided individuals in employment and housing discrimination complaints. Roy advanced to hearing officer adjudicating wage disputes, he finished his career by volunteering his time to the City of Glendale as a civil service commissioner mainly hearing employee appeals cases. Roy was married to the love of his life Marilyn Moreno for 27 years. Roy remained an ardent critic of the U.S. Governments polices regarding the Vietnam War.
