When Grandfather Doesn’t Remember Anymore

This book was written as a short story about a grandparent that is not able to remember anymore. The hope is that it will provide a forum for discussion when families are faced with the challenges that usually accompany memory loss. The intended audience is anyone who has loved or cared for a person with dementia. It is short and illustrated with personal photos depicting real family events. Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

As Doreen Watson Beard AKA Mama Dori watched her parents, children, grandchildren, and friends try to come to an understanding of what dementia means, it became apparent that more needs to be written on the experience of living with this condition. Early onset dementia is a process that affects the whole family. Her hope and prayer is that this book will open communication and provide increased understanding for families at this challenging time.
