Waking in Nigeria

From the isolated materialism of suburban America, fair-skinned college students, Will and Jane, innocently follow their closest friend, Bosah Dolubasao, to assist with his powerful and feared father’s various businesses in one of Nigeria’s poorest, most mendacious and dangerous regions, the Port Harcourt area, where night robbers, kidnappers and venality are a way of life. The powerful and mysterious world of the Dolubasao family is revealed as Will becomes an aide-de-camp for Bosah and his father, Chief Sir Kaweire Dolubasao. From Port Harcourt to Lagos and Abuja, they are thrust into a world of corruption, shady deals, black gold aspirations and shameful poverty. Maturity and numbed emotion come quickly as the young westerners must overcome extreme adversity to endure, survive and thrive. Underlying the harrowing adventures and the couple’s soul searching and growing awareness is a pointed but poignant ground level view of a beautiful land and people ravaged by a calloused elite.
