"Chancy Flint" tells the story of a twelve-year-old boy who is suddenly forced to accept adult responsibilities in Civil War era Kentucky. His mother is kidnapped by an evil Shawnee war chief. His father sets out to rescue her, leaving Chancy to care for his five-year-old brother, the family farm, and all the animals. Chancy faces many challenges at which most grown-ups would cringe. But we see him grow up straight and strong, tempered by adversity, not defeated by it.
