Saved from being sacrificed to extend the life and power of a priest and priestess of a cult, young Kiwi finds herself in the home of a kindly couple. Kiwi is deaf, and because of her ordeal, not overly trusting of adults. Her new family knows sign language, but very little of Kiwias past.
