More Than it Seems Jimmy Jurrell High School is a specialty high school where the students are taught more than the core subjects. This high school where students catch up their correct grade, is a school where the teachers cannot simply teach the basics. Students are prepared for life beyond the campus of the school where their troubles spill over into the path of their education. Every day, students go to school with problems that are important to them firmly on their minds. Instead of wishing the problems away or pretending they do not see the problems, educators have to make the decision to find ways to help the whole child. Problems like alcoholism, homelessness, illiteracy, sexual abuse, and poverty are real concerns in the lives of our youth. The author, Linda Scott Enakevwe, in this book, MORE THAN IT SEEMS, addresses some of those issues in the lives of our students with a gentle hand. The vulnerability that each child shows in the face of life’s adversities is real, because every child should have a childhood.
