Walking: Poems from My Search for God is the lyrical autobiography of a woman who believes she is everything she has ever been–like a tree with many rings. Each year brings new growth, but the tree continues to nourish itself through all of its rings. She started life with a strong Roman Catholic background, becoming a sister in a religious congregation during late adolescence, and left a sad agnostic. Her husband’s death brought back belief, and she searched for God through Buddhism, Shamanism and Judaism. Today she calls herself a Sufi. Sufism recognizes the deep truth in all traditions, so it is easy for her to draw from all that she has experienced in the many paths she has explored during her seventy-plus years. In this collection you will find poems that reflect all these traditions–and some that simply express her deep yearning to find and connect with God. She chose the title Walking for this book because it is a special metaphor for the way we all search for God. It infers a process, a conscious moving toward God, and is used in many spiritual traditions.
