The street was empty, the detritus of a big city scattered the road, the result of last night’s storm. It used to be her ritual. She would say goodbye at the door, then make a cup of coffee and move to the window to wait and watch for him to sit at the bus stop. The routine used to be part of her morning schedule, but it was different this time. They were out of coffee, and there hadn’t been a bus in months.

No Better View focusses on the relationship of a regular couple isolated in a modest 8th-floor apartment in a city somewhere - just trying to hang on to each other for as long as they can.

A bitter-sweet story of love in isolation in a post-viral apocalypse. No zombies. No descent into brutality. Just a snapshot of the sometimes short lives of those left behind.

Originally written in 2013, well before anyone considered COVID-19, this manuscript had been forgotten until the 20th of March 2020. No Better View was written as part of the conceptual phase for a proposed short film.

The film didn’t get made, and the manuscript slipped from memory.

Until now.

To honour the idea of a found manuscript: apart from some light proofreading, this manuscript is presented as found, with no editing to update to current COVID experiences or concerns.
