Originally this book was written as a dissertation in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Dr. Fisher’s Ph.D. in Human Sexuality. Being a former Catholic nun herself, Dr. Fisher has a unique perspective on the subject. This is the first time anyone has studied the sexual development in the life transitions of women who had previously been Roman Catholic nuns. Particular emphasis was placed on the periods before, during and after these women were in religious life. Finally the voices of Catholic women have a platform to speak on. Now the fascinating, sometimes depressing, sometimes lighthearted experiences of those former nuns is told. These are their life stories that tell of their sexual experiences and offer insight into the abuses within the Catholic Church and the church’s medieval perspective on female sexuality.
