The Sin Eaters

Civilization ended when living lightning became the world’s apex predator. Hungry for modern technology, the lightning forced humanity to abandon its tools and return to a feudalism it hadn’t experienced in 500 years. The sickly boy Fen is born on the wind-blown Siberian Steppe of this stricken world. Gifted by a near-fatal childhood illness with a bristling armor of ragged bone and a powerful vision for how the world must be, he struggles to grow into a powerful chieftain in time to protect the Endless Tribes of his feral home from a threat his people thought had died two centuries before.

Two long centuries before Fen is born, in the modern world we call home, a lonely woman named Eliza sits slumped in the ruins of her career. Tempted by sheer curiosity and a moonshot at professional redemption, she follows the mysterious Grupo de Pachakuti to the Andean peaks where she meets a man who could not be less, or more, human: Charlie.

Eliza is drawn into the depths of this impossible man’s hallucinations of Norse colonies, Aztec sacrifice, and his suicidal need to escape the planet or die trying.
