You see, all I want to do is change the world. If I can have a simple conversation with you that will give you the motivation to keep trying, well baby, that’s when we start living a little more than dying. -Asia Greene-Rhodes, TedX Portland, June 2, 2013
What is unconditional love? Is it possible for you to truly love unconditionally? What about those that hurt you? Can you love them too?
Asia Greene-Rhodes grew up as a Black girl in America and has lived a life filled with love, pain, shock, hurt, and joy. Some experiences should have brought her world to a halt, but instead of being overcome by her pain and depression, she asked what if? She dreams of changing the world by loving those around her in a God-like, unconditional way and she wants to teach others to do the same. Asia highlights this love in all areas of life, including young adulthood, marriage, and parenting. She lays it all on the line, hiding nothing: past abuse, witnessing horrific events, her own depressed thoughts, and her enlightenment and true passion to change the world.
She realized that, in order to make this dream a reality, she needed to first love herself unconditionally. Once we learn to love ourselves deeply and truly, despite our flaws and blemishes, we can, in turn, love others. In this book, she teaches us how to love ourselves despite our pasts, how to forgive (but not forget), how to deal with tragedy, and how to share love with the rest of the world. If we can all learn to do that, this world will truly be beautiful.
