Since 1924, the Sandwich Club has provided fellowship and intellectual challenge to a small group of men in Raleigh, North Carolina. Captain Sam Lawrence recruited a group of ten or twelve kindred souls to meet each Friday. According to founding member Charles E. Johnson, With certain exceptions, this was supposed to represent a cross section of the available intelligentsia of Raleigh. This text explores the history of the Sandwich Club in Raleigh as well as the more than 80 members that have comprised the group throughout its history of more than 85 years.
